The truth is you can definitely build muscle just as effectively by lifting lighter weights. According to a study led by Dr. Stuart Phillips, a kinesiology professor at McMaster University Ontario, lifting light weight is just as efficient at building both muscle and strength.
Furthermore, “fatigue is a great equalizer here” says Phillips. This means, that the key step here is lift to the point of exhaustion and it doesn’t matter whether weights are heavy or light. The results are almost the same.
In this case, if you’re into gaining muscle and not into deadlifts and if you want to reduce the stress on your joints, tendons and ligaments for a period without sacrificing gains, then opting for lifting light weights is a great option. The only thing that comes with it is of course the consistency of doing exercise with light weights to achieve maximum result.
